Researchers have used Easter Island Moai replicas to show how they might have been “walked” to where they are displayed.
Finally. People need to realize aliens aren’t the answer for everything (when they use it to erase poc civilizations and how smart they were)
(via TumbleOn)
What’s really wild is that the native people literally told the Europeans “they walked” when asked how the statues were moved. The Europeans were like “lol these backwards heathens and their fairy tales guess it’s gonna always be a mystery!”

Maori told Europeans that kiore were native rats and no one believed them until DNA tests proved it
And the Iroquois told Europeans that squirels showed them how to tap maple syrup and no one believed them until they caught it on video
Oral history from various First Nations tribes in the Pacific Northwest contained stories about a massive earthquake/tsunami hitting the coast, but no one listened to them until scientists discovered physical evidence of quakes from the Cascadia fault line.
Roopkund Lake AKA “Skeleton Lake” in the Himalayas in India is eerie because it was discovered with hundreds of skeletal remains and for the life of them researchers couldn’t figure out what it was that killed them. For decades the “mystery” went unsolved.
Until they finally payed closer attention to local songs and legend that all essentially said “Yah the Goddess Nanda Devi got mad and sent huge heave stones down to kill them”. That was consistent with huge contusions found all on their neck and shoulders and the weather patterns of the area, which are prone to huge & inevitably deadly goddamn hailstones. https://www.facebook.com/atlasobscura/videos/10154065247212728/
Literally these legends were past down for over a thousand years and it still took researched 50 to “figure out” the “mystery”. 🙄Adding to this, the Inuit communities in Nunavut KNEW where both the wrecks of the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror were literally the entire time but Europeans/white people didn’t even bother consulting them about either ship until like…last year.
“Inuit traditional knowledge was critical to the discovery of both ships, she pointed out, offering the Canadian government a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when Inuit voices are included in the process.
In contrast, the tragic fate of the 129 men on the Franklin expedition hints at the high cost of marginalising those who best know the area and its history.
“If Inuit had been consulted 200 years ago and asked for their traditional knowledge – this is our backyard – those two wrecks would have been found, lives would have been saved. I’m confident of that,” she said. “But they believed their civilization was superior and that was their undoing.”

“Oh yeah, I heard a lot of stories about Terror, the ships, but I guess Parks Canada don’t listen to people,” Kogvik said. “They just ignore Inuit stories about the Terror ship.”
Schimnowski said the crew had also heard stories about people on the land seeing the silhouette of a masted ship at sunset.
“The community knew about this for many, many years. It’s hard for people to stop and actually listen … especially people from the South.”

Indigenous Australians have had stories about giant kangaroos and wombats for thousands of years, and European settlers just kinda assumed they were myths. Cut to more recently when evidence of megafauna was discovered, giant versions of Australian animals that died out 41 000 years ago.
Similarly, scientists have been stumped about how native Palm trees got to a valley in the middle of Australia, and it wasn’t until a few years ago that someone did DNA testing and concluded that seeds had been carried there from the north around 30 000 years ago… aaand someone pointed out that Indigenous people have had stories about gods from the north carrying the seeds to a valley in the central desert.
oh man let me tell you about Indigenous Australian myths - the framework they use (with multi-generational checking that’s unique on the planet, meaning there’s no drifting or mutation of the story, seriously they are hardcore about maintaining integrity) means that we literally have multiple first-hand accounts of life and the ecosystem before the end of the last ice age
it’s literally the oldest accurate oral history of the world.
Now consider this: most people consider the start of recorded history to be with the Sumerians and the Early Dynastic period of the Egyptians. So around 3500 BCE, or five and a half thousand years ago
These highly accurate Aboriginal oral histories originate from twenty thousand years ago at least
Ain’t it amazing what white people consider history and what they don’t?
I always said disservice is done to oral traditions and myth when you take them literally. Ancient people were not stupid.
A child was hit by teargas. A Child.
A monk in the protest literally prayed and begged the police to stop.
Dozens of people are injured from the water cannon.
My friends are freaking there. And I’ve lost contact with them. The last text I sent was to go to our campus because it is safer there.
I’m so angry. Dear international followers, please acknowledge and please boost this post.
I’m sorry for swear words but I just can’t tolerate this shit anymore. I’m ashamed that I can only sit here, translating and donating. But I’m going to keep updating the situation nonetheless.
Please show support to the group of students organizing, เยาวชนปลดแอก, (Free Youth) and spread the word.

my brother says that if anyone is the protagonist of the world, it’s Lulu
Bishop Curry V may be young (10 years old, to be precise), but the little kid from Texas has some big ideas. He’s currently working on a device that could help prevent children from dying in hot cars.
The number of children who died in hot cars increased across the country last year, and Texas had the highest number of cases. Sadly for Bishop, the issue also hits close to home because a baby died in a minivan last summer outside a home near his own family’s home in McKinney.

Bishop was inspired to create a device he calls “Oasis,” which would attach to a car seat and detect if a child is left inside the vehicle, prompting it to blow cool air until parents or the police are notified.
“It would be a dream to have lots of inventions that would save many lives,” the precocious 10-year-old told the news station.
A lot of people don’t realize how easy it is to leave something in a hot car.
It’s easy to forget something when it’s not in your daily routine, especially if it’s asleep or under a blanket or something.
This is a nightmare. I don’t have kids myself, but I can absolutely understand how this could happen- everyone’s sick so you’re probably kind of out of it, you run in thinking you’re just going to be a minute, get distracted with the task at hand… and then your child dies in a horrific way because of it…
I’m all for any methods or technologies that can help prevent it from turning tragic.

THIS IS LITERALLY THE BEST WAY TO WAKE UP holy shit I am so proud of this child I wanna give them a huge hug

Let’s boost the hell out of this

I wish someone had told me all these things when I was a confused, hurting teenager, so I am sharing them now. I hope they help someone the way they could have helped me.
holy hecking signal boost my dudes
You have no idea how true this is! Really! There was a time the only thing that kept me going was the knowledge one day I would get out of here. I’m still not completely out but one day I’ll be able to break free, at least now I’ve found my real family.
Family is not defined by blood. My brother is my only blood relative that seems like actual family to me. I’ve found my real family in college and I’m so glad I met them because yeah my family is little, and it is broken, but it is good, so good.
TW: animal death / animal neglect
I
wanted to draw this comic for a long time, but I never knew how to
approach this issue. In my childhood all my friends had budgies, all of
them were put aside somewhere and left alone. Treated like “annoying”
decoration. Don’t get a bird if you can’t meet its needs.
I can’t tell you how hard this is making me cry right now. Birds suffer so much heartache and cruelty just because they’re cheap, free, noisy, bitey…
I’ve picked up budgies that were placed out with the trash. I had someone tell me how they let their daughter starve they’re budgie to death and didn’t bat an eye. He was manning a dog rescue booth next to mine.
I’d give up everything I have if it meant that these amazing, beautiful, intelligent creatures didn’t have to suffer like this anymore.
This about brought me to tears
No animal deserves to be treated like this, but birds especially are an animal that often people do not realize the work that goes into caring for them.
I work and take care of birds for a living. The macaws are some of my favorites to work with. But I know I could NEVER have a bird as a pet at this point in my life because I simply don’t have the time for them, and it’s unfair to them.
Pets are for life. Don’t get a bird unless you are ready to manage the undesirable qualities that come with them, and do behaviors they are meant to naturally be doing.
I love birds. Birds are some of my favorite animals.
I would never get a pet bird, not the way I live now.
Unless you are willing to give your house, your routine, your peace and quiet to this bird, you should not get one as a pet. Parrots especially– they are too smart and restless too stay locked up in a cage.
This is both really sad and a little bit of a mood. We have a cockatiel. She’s a cantankerous little twat who doesn’t like anyone and hisses at us when our shadows fall over her cage and bites us when we hold out our finger for her to jump onto. She’s loud, but doesn’t do ‘cute or fun’ sounds, and sometimes that can be annoying.
But we still love her, and care for her, and do what we can to make her happy. We got her a mirror so she isn’t AS lonely, but lately we’ve been thinking of getting another friend for her, since we have a bigger cage now.
I don’t understand how people can treat such wonderful creatures with such strong personalities like they’re little more than fish in a tank.
Your church-going, God-worshipping sister adopted a small child and you’re excited to see them. But when you do, the child is a menace. They’re throwing things everywhere, setting furniture on fire with seemingly nothing, chanting in Latin to summon demons, but the weirdest thing is that your sister doesn’t seem to mind.
“You literally adopted the antichrist, Anne. What the fuck.”
“Yeah, I knew when I saw him at the orphanage. I figured if the kid had some decent fucking parenting that we could avoid the whole ‘Revelations’ shite. Nasty business, that.”
George, who’s name has been kindly changed from Damien, approaches his new mother with a huge spider in his hands. It promptly bursts into flames.
“Good job, love. Now go find the rest.” George’s face makes no expression, but his eyes shine when he recieves a pat on the head for his efforts.
As the months go by, George seems to settle down. He adjusts to school, friends, and the positive reinforcement Anne gives him. She encourages the good he does, even though the powers he uses aren’t “good”. When she gets calls from the school, it’s about a rambunctious boy that won’t sit still. Not a destroyer of the world and innocence.
It’s at Christmas dinner, that you let slip your amazement to your mother. How good Anne is for him and how he’s improved a lot. Still summoning hellhounds for games of fetch, though.
“Oh, he’ll forget how to do that when he falls in love the first time,” Your mother laughs, smiling wide.
“How do you know that,” you ask bewildered.
“Because, you did.”
okay so someone please write the story of the family of super-low-key holy warriors who have made it their mission to locate the antichrist in every generation (because when one gets spoiled they try AGAIN) and adopt them and love them into not being the antichrist anymore, thus perpetually delaying the apocalypse
delaying the apocalypse via good parenting I love this
I would love to read this

The beauty of the written word is once again heralded in an incredible project by 33-year-old artist Tünzale Memmedzade. The Azerbaijani painter spent three years painstakingly transcribing the Quran onto sheets of transparent black silk. The result is a beautifully crafted religious text that demonstrates both devotion and patience.
This man wrote here "I hope that charms mrs. 'Margot' will be appreciated by the inmates!"
Margot is a non-binary person, using pronoun she/her. Margot was arrested for a 2 months and placed in male arrest.
And this absolutely disgusting man wishing her to be r@ped in this arrest. What the fuck Poland?!
